Summer's here and school's out! Need some ideas for fun? It doesn't take much time or money to make a day memorable for you and your friends.

Here are some simple ideas to sprinkle throughout the summer:

1. Plant flowers. You don't have to plant an entire flower garden. A few seeds sprinkled into a flower pot will add color to a window sill. An old boot makes a good planter, too. Be sure to water your plant every day and watch for new sprouts!

2. Play in the sprinkler. Get out those cut-off shorts and bathing suits and cool off.

3. Collect leaves and transform them into art. Gather leaves. Lay a piece of white paper over them. Hold firmly in place and color over the top of the leaf. Remove the leaf and create a frame around the edge of the paper. Tada! Instant art.

4. Feed the birds. Cover a pine cone with peanut butter and roll in bird seed. Tie a string around the pine cone and hang it from a tree. The birds will love it!

5. Catch fireflies at night. Have your parents put a few small holes in the top of a plastic jar. Catch fireflies and place them in the jar. It's a homemade lantern! (Be sure to let the fireflies go before you go to bed. )

6. Make snow cones. Most refrigerators now have icemakers that shave the ice. Fill a glass with shaved ice and add juice or Kool-Aid for a homemade snow cone! You can make your own snow cone holder out of a piece of cardboard, coffee filters, and tape. Cut the cardboard and coffee filters in a big triangle. Lay the coffee filter on top of the cardboard and roll it up with the cardboard on the outside. Tape edges closed.

7. Make rock pets. Use different size rocks to shape turtles, frogs, or other animals. For added fun, paint them.

8. Make seashell paintings. Paint pictures or designs on the inside of medium-sized seashells. (Paint shouldn't be too thin or the colors will run. )

9. Make a summer hideout. Hang sheets from a clothesline to make a tent. Add chairs, boxes, or anything you want to make furniture.

10. Play basketball. Use a mop pail or bucket if you don't have a hoop.

It doesn't matter which activities you choose as long as you have fun!

Spammers have changed their tactics a lot over the last few years and the amount of spam circulating the Internet is rising at an alarming rate. The vast diversity of spam messages and different techniques used by spammers make it hard to identify spam accurately, whether it is a human being or a computer program doing the identification. Identifying spam will not have a direct impact on the amount of spam distributed each day, but over a long period of time it can make spam an ineffective method of marketing. Spammers continue to distribute unsolicited bulk e-mails because it works and they need active readers to make it work. If nobody read their e-mails anymore they will have no reason for wasting their time on unresponsive recipients, except for the lunatics who like sending junk e-mails for no reason at all.

Spammers link to remote images or JavaScript from within their e-mails to track their performance. These linked objects are loaded from a server each time a recipient opens one of their e-mails. They monitor the logs of these servers to see how many times the images or scripts were loaded, which will effectively give them a good indication of how many times their e-mails were opened. If they continue to see activity from these linked objects, they will continue sending spam. An e-mail client like Thunderbird can be configured to block remote images in e-mails. Images embedded into the e-mail or images sent as attachments, will still be displayed, because embedded and attached images cannot send tracking information to the sender. Blocking remote images will not cause any discomfort while reading legitimate e-mails, all remote images in a legitimate e-mail can easily be unblocked with the click of a button. Disabling JavaScript in your e-mail client is not a bad idea either, very few legitimate e-mails use JavaScript so you will not miss a thing by disabling it. In fact, it is anyway safer reading e-mails without the execution of JavaScript. By blocking images and disabling JavaScript you make it impossible for spammers to monitor the performance of their e-mails.

The main reason why spammers embed images into their e-mails instead of using text, is to bypass the spam filters. Certain phrases within the text of an e-mail may trigger a spam filter, but spam filters cannot read the contents of an image, so it is perfectly safe to put the text inside an image and embed the image into an e-mail. This worked for a while until spam filters started to flag these messages as spam. Spammers started to add random text from various books at the end of their e-mails to fool the spam filters. Spam filters cannot read the text of an e-mail in context with the rest of the e-mail, so e-mails containing an image and some senseless text at the end, may appear perfectly legitimate to most spam filters. Spammers also add CAN-SPAM banners and fake unsubscribe links in their e-mails to make it appear as legitimate and compliant with anti-spam legislation. Anyone can add a CAN-SPAM banner to an e-mail and the only purpose of the unsubscribe link is to confirm that your mailbox is active. You may believe that you will be removed from their list by clicking on the unsubscribe link, but that will only cause your e-mail address to be moved to their priority list and you will be exposed to even more spam.

Links in spam e-mails normally contain affiliate or tracking codes. The affiliate code will only be beneficial to the spammer if you buy something from the web site referred by the link. You should never buy anything from a web site referred by a spam e-mail, not even a well-known and trustworthy site. You always run the risk of becoming a victim of a phishing attack. Links containing tracking data may be linked to your e-mail address and can have the same effect as a fake unsubscribe link. Sophisticated spammers can create a unique link connected to the e-mail address of each e-mail they send out, so they can easily confirm that your e-mail account is active when you click on one of those links.

So what is the bottom line of all this? To battle spam effectively, you need to ignore it. But you can only ignore it if you are able to identify it. Identifying spam often means that you need to open the e-mail. Opening the e-mail may cause tracking information to be sent to a server (through remote images or JavaScript), informing the spammer that your mailbox is active or the information may be used to monitor the effectiveness of the e-mail. To prevent this tracking information from being sent you need to disable JavaScript and block remote images with your e-mail client. Links provided in these e-mails should never be trusted and you should never click on any of them.

Ignoring spam does not mean you should not report it. Ignoring spam simply means that you should not respond to the spam like the spammer would like you to do. Making spam less effective for the spammer and reporting it to the appropriate authorities is the crucial key to beating spam.

My Experiences With Testing and Tweaking Google Adsense

When Google first came out with the Adsense affiliate program I turned my nose up at the idea of placing their ad units on my websites. I suspected this would be just another affiliate program taking up space on the pages of my site but delivering very little in the way of commissions.
I'd experimented with several affiliate products over a period of six months or so and found I simply didn't have the level of traffic required to leverage most of the programs that were available to me.
Friends with websites of similar popularity who spoke about their Adsense earnings made giving the program another look very tempting. Finally I signed up and added ad units to a couple of my websites.
Initial results were anything but exciting. I earned pennies per day and figured at that rate I would earn my first Google commission check in a few years.
Then I had the opportunity to interview Joel Comm. This was right after he released his first information product about Adsense - when most people hadn't heard of him. Taking a few nuggets of information from that conversation, I changed up how I displayed the ad units on my site and saw immediate improvements in income.
After that the challenge became deciding which pages to emphasize Adsense units on and which pages would be better served without them. For example, when I place prominent ad units on the Work at Home Moms Talk Radio website I earn very good Adsense income, but I believe I would rather have visitors paying closer attention to my show notes and other more profitable affiliate recommendations so I tend to keep ad units to a minimum there.
I have other websites that do very well with Adsense while still performing their primary purpose so I keep ad units up front and obvious on their pages.
I have one website of a personal nature that I added Adsense to three years ago. Not expecting much, I was pleasantly surprised to see it earning over a hundred dollars a month right away. When cold weather arrived that number doubled, tripled and then quadrupled! I couldn't understand why this would happen as rge content was not seasonal in nature.

Even though many authors and speakers have already said over and over again to avoid
spamming there are still hundreds of marketers doing it. Why? Is it really worth the time and
effort just to get delivered into spam?
Spamming is like trespassing in real world, in short you are not allowed in wherever that
may be. There are a lot of reasons why you shouldn't spam. And I know you might have
heard a lot of it but I'll just write it down anyways so that you are reminded.
• Your chance to be read is .01% or less
That's almost nothing. Spam folders are known to have trash emails. Only a few people
look into it and most of the time they are probably only looking for something that their
friends have mistakenly sent. Good on you if you catch their attention and make them open
it. But that would be like wishing for a rain in dry season or wishing for a sun at midnight.
Now, there are a lot of opt-in lists for sale, do not get hooked on it. Because some of them
are just random emails, or something that do not even exist already. If you want your email
marketing to be fruitful then work hard for your opt-in list, offer free membership, or free
ebook, whatever you fancy just work it out yourself, do not ask for a free ride, because the
consequences are not worth it.
• You can get banned
In forums, spammers get banned, so if you try to spam to get a sale immediately then your
existence on that particular forum would also be finished immediately. And often you'll also
be black listed on other forums as well, so before you try on spamming, think twice first,
and make sure that you think ahead, not just on what you can get now but on what you can
have in the future. So if you really want to create traffic using forums, then you should try
earning their trust first by posting relevant stuff before telling / selling them your products.
Forums are for making friends that will eventually be your customers, not making customers

One of the easiest ways for your email to get snatched up by a SPAM bot is to have it on your website. Still, many businesses these days fall into the trap and then wonder why they are getting 15-20 SPAM emails a day. Fortunately, there is a quick fix that will allow you to have your email on your website, but in a way that the SPAM bots cannot recognize.
The way to do this is to create an image file of your email address. SPAM bots are designed to skim through text and code to find email addresses, but they cannot understand an image as it is referenced in the code by it's path. The only thing that is important to remember though is while the image is not decipherable by the SPAM bot, it's alt tag may be. For those that are not familiar with the alt tag, it is what will show up if the image does not load so the user still has a description of the image. Please don't take the time to implement this method if you are just going to make the alt tag your email address. My suggestion is make it something like "joesemail" or something like that. This way users who cannot view the image know what it is but the SPAM bots cannot pick up on it.
Using methods such as these are simple yet effective ways to better protect yourself from getting picked up by SPAM bots. Please know though that this is only one way to protect yourself and in order to be fully protected you need to employ multiple methods that will most likely affect how you use the internet in general. suddenly jumps down, and the priceless tree topples over.

In the blink of an eye, your visitor exits your site, and
your sale is dust - unless you have had the foresight to
utilize an autoresponder that has captured her email
address. If you have installed an autoresponder, you can
then follow-up with her, and in all probability, make the
sale when the poor woman has finished repotting her
precious bonsai.

Autoresponders are remarkable, versatile programs that do
so much more than just automatically answer your email.
Here are a few ideas that will help you to creatively and
productively use your autoresponder to transform the casual
visitor into a profitable customer. Use your autoresponder

Well, I just can't think of a single darn thing to
say. Oh well, I'm outta here!

Sound familiar? No! Oh, get real! We've all
experienced this phenomenon when we absolutely have to
write something, particularly on deadline. I'm talking
about. . . . .uh, I can't think of what the word is .
. . oh, yes, it's on the tip of my tongue . . . it's:

WRITER'S BLOCK!!!!

Whew! I feel better just getting that out of my head
and onto the page!

Writer's block is the patron demon of the blank page.
You may think you know EXACTLY what you're going to
write, but as soon as that evil white screen appears
before you, your mind suddenly goes completely blank.
I'm not talking about Zen meditation
stare-at-the-wall-until-enlightenment-hits kind of
blank.

I'm talking about sweat trickling down the back of
your neck, anguish and panic and suffering kind of
blank. The tighter the deadline, the worse the anguish
of writer's block gets.

Having said that, let me say it again. "The tighter
the deadline, the worse the anguish of writer's block
gets." Now, can you figure out what might possibly be
causing this horrible plunge into speechlessness?

The answer is obvious: FEAR! You are terrified of that
blank page. You are terrified you have absolutely
nothing of value to say. You are afraid of the fear of
writer's block itself!

It doesn?t necessarily matter if you've done a decade
of research and all you have to do is string sentences
you can repeat in your sleep together into coherent
paragraphs. Writer's block can strike anyone at any
time. Based in fear, it raises our doubts about our
own self-worth, but it's sneaky. It's writer's block,
after all, so it doesn't just come and let you know
that. No, it makes you feel like an idiot who just had
your frontal lobes removed through your sinuses. If
you dared to put forth words into the greater world,
they would surely come out as gibberish!

Let's try and be rational with this irrational demon.
Let's make a list of what might possibly be beneath
this terrible and terrifying condition.

1. Perfectionism. You must absolutely produce a
masterpiece of literature straight off in the first
draft. Otherwise, you qualify as a complete failure.

2. Editing instead of composing. There's your
monkey-mind sitting on your shoulder, yelling as soon
as you type "I was born?," no, not that, that's wrong!
That's stupid! Correct correct correct correct?

3. Self-consciousness. How can you think, let alone
write, when all you can manage to do is pry the
fingers of writer's block away from your throat enough
so you can gasp in a few shallow breaths? You're not
focusing on what you're trying to write, your focusing
on those gnarly fingers around your windpipe.

4. Can't get started. It's always the first sentence
that's the hardest. As writers, we all know how
EXTREMELY important the first sentence is. It must be
brilliant! It must be unique! It must hook your
reader's from the start! There's no way we can get
into writing the piece until we get past this
impossible first sentence.

5. Shattered concentration. You're cat is sick. You
suspect your mate is cheating on you. Your electricity
might be turned off any second. You have a crush on
the local UPS deliveryman. You have a dinner party
planned for your in-laws. You . . . Need I say more.
How can you possibly concentrate with all this mental
clutter?

6. Procrastination. It's your favorite hobby. It's
your soul mate. It?s the reason you've knitted 60
argyle sweaters or made 300 bookcases in your garage
workshop. It's the reason you never run out of Brie.

FACE IT ? IT?S ONE OF THE REASONS YOU HAVE WRITER'S
BLOCK!

How to Overcome Writer's Block

Okay. I can hear that herd of you running away from
this article as fast as you can. Absurd! you huff.
Never in a million years, you fume. Writer's block is
absolutely, undeniably, scientifically proven to be
impossible to overcome.

Oh, just get over it! Well, I guess it's not that
easy. So try to sit down for just a few minutes and
listen. All you have to do is listen ? you don't have
to actually write a single word.

Ah, there you all are again. I am beginning to make
you out now that the cloud of dust is settling.

I am here to tell you that WRITER'S BLOCK CAN BE
OVERCOME.

Please, remain seated.

There are ways to trick this nasty demon. Pick one,
pick several, and give them a try. Soon, before you
even have a chance for your heartbeat to accelerate,
guess what? You're writing.

Here are some tried and true methods of overcoming
writer's block:

1. Be prepared. The only thing to fear is fear itself.
(I know, that's a clich?but as soon as you start
writing, feel free to improve on it.) If you spend
some time mulling over your project before you
actually sit down to write, you may be able to
circumvent the worst of the crippling panic.

2. Forget perfectionism. No one ever writes a
masterpiece in the first draft. Don't put any
expectations on your writing at all! In fact, tell
yourself you're going to write absolute garbage, and
then give yourself permission to happily stink up your
writing room.

3. Compose instead of editing. Never, never write your
first draft with your monkey-mind sitting on your
shoulder making snide editorial comments. Composing is
a magical process. It surpasses the conscious mind by
galaxies. It's even incomprehensible to the conscious,
editorial, monkey-mind. So prepare an ambush. Sit down
at your computer or your desk. Take a deep breath and
blow out all your thoughts. Let your finger hover over
your keyboard or pick up your pen. And then pull a
fake: appear to be about to begin to write, but
instead, using your thumb and index finger of your
dominant hand, flick that little annoying ugly monkey
back into the barrel of laughs it came from. Then jump
in ? quickly! Write, scribble, scream, howl, let
everything loose, as long as you do it with a pen or
your computer keyboard.

4. Forget the first sentence. You can sweat over that
all-important one-liner when you've finished your
piece. Skip it! Go for the middle or even the end.
Start wherever you can. Chances are, when you read it
over, the first line will be blinking its little neon
lights right at you from the depths of your
composition.

5. Concentration. This is a hard one. Life throws us
so many curve balls. How about thinking about your
writing time as a little vacation from all those
annoying worries. Banish them! Create a space, perhaps
even a physical one, where nothing exists except the
single present moment. If one of those irritating
worries gets by you, stomp on it like you would an
ugly bug!

6. Stop procrastinating. Write an outline. Keep your
research notes within sight. Use someone else's
writing to get going. Babble incoherently on paper or
on the computer if you have to.

Just do it! (I know, I stole that line from
somewhere?). Tack up anything that could possibly help
you to get going: notes, outlines, pictures of your
grandmother. Put the cookie you will be allowed to eat
when you finish your first draft within sight ? but
out of reach. Then pick up the same type of writing
that you need to write, and read it. Then read it
again. Soon, trust me, the fear will slowly fade away.
As soon as it does, grab your keyboard ? and get
writing!
